I coughed-up bucks to join Substack hoping to learn more from it, instead of Facebook groups and Twitter.
Yet today, while our nation is in the midst of another Constitutional crisis, this time over interpretation of Section 3, XIV Amendment (which I paid little attention to until Colorado cousins rang the Liberty Bell), I have looked to find someone on Substack who could or would educate me about 3-14 without judging it. Yes, that was a run-on sentence.
Why the dearth, the screening, masking, cloaking, shrouding, the veiling, disguising, and pettifogging of 3-14 on Substack?
“The indicted former 45th was not America’s CEO.” Excuse me?
“The 45th hasn’t been convicted of insurrection.” Does he have to, to break 3-14?
“On January 6, the 45th didn’t engage.” What verb would you use?
“It would be undemocratic to disqualify the 45th president.” Has he earned the right to take another shot at it?
“What happened at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, wasn’t an insurrection or rebellion.”
What’s an ‘insurrection’?
A violent uprising against an authority or government; for example, when Union troops were rushed back from the front of the War of Rebellion (i.e. ‘civil’ war) to put down New York City draft riots in 1863.
What’s a ‘rebellion’?
An act of violent or open resistance to an established government; for example, when Union troops were called out to end the NYC draft riots in 1863, during the War of the Rebellion (i.e. ‘civil’ war).
I watched and listened to 4-hours of LIVE TV reporting from the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. I saw and heard the 45th president yell with much anger over a PA system at the rally, “We’re going to march to the Capitol and fight like hell.”
Those 4-hours brought back painful memories. I have never forgotten about the November day when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Administrators closed the university and sent students home to our families to mourn.
Five years later, I attended a lecture in Virginia by former Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg. He helped to explain why average Americans remember little about politics after 3-years, unless those politics had traumatic emotional impact.
What happened January 6 at the U.S. Capitol had a traumatic emotional impact on average Americans, I suspect.
I know what happened disqualifies the 45th president, according to 3-14.
