LA Burning?

Trump says LA is burning.

On February 27, 1933, the Reichstag building (site of Germany’s Congress) in Berlin was set on fire.

Hitler and his fascist leadership claimed the fire was a plot to overthrow Germany’s government.

Hitler’s claim was used as justification for the Reichstag Fire Decree which was passed by Germany’s Congress the next day.

The Reichstag Fire Decree suspended Germany’s civil liberties. Gone were Germany’s freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of the press.

The decree allowed fascists to arrest and imprison all political opponents without specific charges.

The Reichstag fire helped to create a climate of fear. It helped increase Hitler's image as a decisive leader.

The Reichstag fire paved the way for fascists to dismantle Germany’s democratic institutions.

Less than a month later, Germany’s Congress, passed the Enabling Act. It gave Hitler complete dictatorial powers.
